Push Past the Limits: a This I Believe Essay

For our English 1 class, we were asked to compose an essay called This I Beleive. This type of essay started on a 1950s radio show with the same name. Every day, average American people could share their essays freely about anything that they believed. This is one of my best drafts for this type of essay. Enjoy!

Push Past the Limits

I believe to push past the limits. Humans have limits in the first place, because people aren’t invincible. If humans were invincible and all powerful, nothing would be exciting to finish or accomplish. I love it when I’m able to beat my previous time or jump in track, and I love the competitiveness that comes when I meet my goals. People’s goals must be realistic and actually push themselves or else they won’t feel satisfied. I believed that I was going to climb a mountain sometime in my life, a true mountain. It’s hard to do that when I live in the beautiful flat plains of the Midwest, but I always had that goal.
My wish finally came true when my whole family traveled to Norway to see my friends that came over to the states. But that’s another long story. Anyways they were great friends who also lived near the mountains. It was the same day that we arrived that we climbed my first mountain. It wasn’t so bad to climb, especially when it only takes an hour or so to climb, but the views were breathtaking. I was so glad to finally succeed in my goal to climb a mountain, but that wasn’t the end.
I was eager for more, for bigger mountain with better views. I thought, I might as well climb more when I’m here in Norway. I definitely pushed my limits when I climbed another mountain, and another, and another, until I climbed a total of 5 mountains. My favorite mountain out of all of them was the hardest. My group of friends and I climbed a behemoth of a mountain. The name of the mountain range was Romsdalseggen in the city of Åndalsnes. This one took us a total of 3 hours to climb, one way. The mountain felt like a skyscraper on the ground, but felt even taller when I was at the peak. I pushed my boundaries by pushing through trails full of slippery mud and jagged branches to support myself on. And after yet 3 hours, we finally made it to the top. The view was 100 times better than the first mountain. I was just in awe of God’s creation, especially the different types of terrain I experienced. I didn’t really cared if I would have gotten hurt, I pushed through my boundaries and completed one of the best goals in my life.
I want other people to push through their limits because they’ll never know what they can achieve if they just focus and complete their task, goal or whatever. It doesn’t matter how they get there, it’s just the memories they will experience while they try to complete their goals. So go out there, people can be surprised how much confidence and determination can make their experiences 10 times better than they would have been if they went through the motions.
